(And it just might.)
So you remember the Fabergé shawl I've been working on? When last we left it, I had decided that using white to make up for the lack of variegated and purple yarn looked too busy:.
Therefore, I ripped back to the end of the beaded section (again), and re-started the lace section with the purple. When that ran out, I used the variegated. Then that ran out, so, as I mentioned in my last post, I bought more. And on Saturday night I balled the new skein of variegated and kept going. Then I realised I'd started going in the wrong direction after joining the second skein of variegated, had to tink back to the join, and then kept going in the correct damn direction:
And you know what? Even though it looks less busy than that first picture? I still think it looks too busy. I don't love it.
:::siiiiiiigh:::
You know what this means, don't you? I'm going to have to rip back to the end of the beaded section AGAIN (I've lost track of how often I've done that...probably at least five times, and I'm not exaggerating even a little bit there) and start all. over. again. This time with the variegated. So what I'll end up with is a variegated shawl with a big fabergé section of purple-with-white-overlay in the middle.
I swear, it's going to be beautiful.
I swear, it's going to be gorgeous.
I swear, it's going to be totally worth all this lebakee*.
(I'm doing a lot of swearing there, aren't I? WHY YES, DAMMIT, I AM.)
And if it turns out that I don't have enough of the variegated to do all of that, then I...I...I just don't know what I'll do. Although I do know that it won't be pretty. (And will likely involve swearing.)
* Arabic term (or what passes for Arabic in my family, who were peasants who came out from Syria at the turn of the 20th century, so YMMV considerably if you speak modern Arabic) for 'a supreme hassle'.

We've all had projects like this and, yes, they are worth it in the end. It looks great. Hang in there.
Thanks Yvette! I definitely will. So far, so good on this latest re-attempt. (Hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself.)
