One day, for fun, I decided to combine lace, ruffles, a texture pattern and bobbles all in a single pattern…and it worked! The result is an adorable little set which will keep a baby’s extremities warm, while looking making them look absolutely darling at the same time.

- Scratch mittens
- Booties
- Bonnet
Sizing
- Mittens:
- 0-6 months: Finished wrist circumference 2.75" unstretched, finished hand circumference 5", total height 4"
- 6-12 months: Finished wrist circumference 3.75" unstretched, finished hand circumference 5", total height 5.25"
- Booties:
- 0-6 months: To fit foot circumference 4", to fit foot length 3.5"
- 6-12 months: To fit foot circumference 4.75", to fit foot length 4.25"
- Bonnet:
- Newborn: To fit head circumference 12.5"
- Baby: To fit head circumference 13.75"
Skills required
- All patterns:
- Knitting, purling
- Increasing, decreasing
- Chart reading
- (optional; just makes the bobbles easier) Knitting backwards
- Some patterns also require:
- Picking up stitches
- Three-needle bind-off
- Working small circumferences in the round (i.e. DPNs, magic loop, or 2-circular methods)
- Short rows (instructions given in pattern)
- Grafting (aka Kitchener Stitch)
Materials needed
- Yarn: Fingering weight, as follows: - models used S.R. Kertzer "On Your Toes Bamboo", 75% bamboo/25% nylon, 328yds/100g, colour ON 260318.
- Mittens: about 55 yards for 0-6 months, about 77 yards for 6-12 months
- Booties: about 63 yards for 0-6 months, about 87 yards for 6-12 months
- Bonnet: about 91 yards for newborn, about 115 yards for baby
- Needles: 2.5mm needles: double-pointed needles for mittens and booties, straights and 16”/40cm circular for bonnet
- Stitch marker: one for mittens, three for booties
- Ribbon, approx. 2.25” wide: (optional) two 17” lengths for mittens, (optional) two 18.5” lengths for booties, 37” for bonnet
- Darning needle (for grafting): booties
- Stitch holder: booties, bonnet
Gauge
- 29 stitches and 44 rows to 4” measured over Chart B pattern
