Short and sweet

I'm kind of bad at finding the time to keep up with them, but I like to listen to knitting podcasts. One I'm actually up-to-date with is a video podcast called Round the Twist, which is a basic but very nicely entertaining weekly video by a knitter named Carin ("alcariel" on Ravelry), where she talks about what she's been knitting and spinning, and other things that are going on with her life related to knitting and spinning (or which are otherwise generally interesting to her viewing audience). Recently, Carin became engaged, and wedding planning started becoming a hot topic on her podcast. And on last week's episode, she discussed a new development in the wedding planning - that, in addition to knitting the cake topper and little mini versions of everyone in the wedding party, she was also interested in having scads of teeny-tiny amigurumi cupcakes on the tables as decorations and/or favours for her guests.

Fortunately, she had enough sense to know that she did not have time to do all of this knitting herself, so she invited her viewership to knit teeny-tiny cupcakes for her wedding if anyone felt that they would like to do so.

Well, it seems that a fair few of us do feel like doing so, and I am one of them.

However, I didn't want to knit just any cupcake. I wanted to knit a cupcake that was appropos for this particular couple. And, seeing as Carin recently knitted her guy a Jayne Cobb hat, at his request, after she'd gotten him hooked on Firefly...I thought a Jayne Cobb cupcake would be a cool idea.

After a few false starts, I came up with one:

Completed

It's a little bigger than Carin wanted her wedding cupcakes to be, so I think the next ones I make, I'll go down to 2.25mm needles (the above cupcake was made with 2.75mms). But when I posted about it to her podcast group on Ravelry, she thought it was awesome and her guy has already claimed that particular cupcake for his own. :)

If you'd like to make it, do go ahead, I've written up the pattern. You can get more information by following the link for it in the "My Designs" section on the left, or just go right ahead and...
